3D Printed Aircraft
Friday, August 12th, 2011The University of Southampton have created the worlds first aeroplane entirely from 3D printed parts. The engineers, Andy Keane and Jim Scanlan, have now successfully completed a test run of their UAV which managed to reach nearly 100mph! Watch the video below to see the plane in action.
The advantages of the parts for the plane being 3D printed are numeuous, doing so reduces the cost, reduces the construction time, allows changes to be made a lot easier and a lot speedier, it makes creating much more complicated and intricate designs possible and I imagine that it makes the whole process a lot easier.
The advances in 3D printing could revolutionise the way planes and other mechanical objects are created.
